I wanted to share an update on Mr. Owens. He continues to make progress each day and is currently recovering at home. Please keep him in your thoughts as he moves forward in his recovery journey.
During his leave, I will be stepping in as DeFacto Superintendent, carrying out both the superintendent and assistant superintendent responsibilities. Lisa Harrod, Superintendent of Manteno, has generously donated her time to serve in a consulting role during this interim period. While she won’t be working directly with students and staff, she will be an additional resource for me during this time. Thank you as well to our dedicated administrative team for working together to ensure a smooth and successful start to the school year.
We are excited to welcome our students back this week!
First Day of School (Grades 1–12): Thursday, August 21 (Common Plan Early Release—students will eat lunch at school)
Meet and Greet Appointments (PreK & Kindergarten): Thursday, August 21 & Friday, August 22 (by appointment only)
First Day of School (PreK & Kindergarten): Monday, August 25
In my welcome message to staff yesterday, I closed with a sentiment I’d like to share with you, our families, as we start the year:
Here in Peotone, we have something truly special. This is a community that rallies together—as we are right now for Mr. Owens—that takes pride in its schools and lifts one another up. This is our moment. Our moment to do something incredible, not just as individual teachers or schools, but as one united district.
That’s why our theme this year, Go Big Blue, is more than just a slogan. It’s a call to bring our very best every single day and to go big in everything we do.
Let’s make this a year filled with unforgettable moments—for our students, for one another, and for our community. Together, let’s Go Big Blue!
Looking forward to a great school year!

What is Go BIG BLUE?
Go BIG BLUE is more than a slogan- it is a focus that fosters pride, character, and community across our schools. Key components include:
-Monthly Character Traits aligned with our Portrait of a Graduate
-Monthly Student & Staff Recognition Programs to highlight positive impact
-Coordinated Spirit Weeks across all schools to strengthen school pride
-District-wide Big Blue Days to promote collaboration and celebrate our amazing staff
-Go BIG BLUE T-Shirts for every student and staff member to visually unite our community
How You Can Help
We are seeking business sponsors and individual donors to help us provide Go BIG BLUE shirts to all students.
Business Sponsorships
Sponsor our shirts and have your business logo proudly displayed on the back of all student shirts, visible across the district all year long! Sponsors should NOT use HomeTown ticketing link and need to reach out directly to Carole Zurales:

We wrapped up the week in our favorite sports gear, celebrating the same teamwork and dedication we’ll bring into the school year!
Here’s to a year of growth, goals, and Go Big Blue! 💙

This dedicated group is spending the week collaborating, aligning, and planning with purpose to ensure a strong start to the school year.
👏 Take a moment to give a shoutout to an admin you recognize in the photo! Please also help us give a warm welcome to Mrs. JIllian Sosnowski, stepping into her new role as PES Principal (familiar face, new title!) and to Mrs. Alicia Jakubek, the newest member of our team as the PHS Assistant Principal.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from their week and for this upcoming school year!
